Now that Emma can sit by herself, we decided the kids could have their first bath together. It went really well. Troy was sharing his toys with her, they were splashing and having fun until Emma got water on her face. She didn't like it one bit! That ended their bath time fun very quickly. Oh well, she will get used to it.

What A Weekend!
Well, we were supposed to travel to Wisconsin for Easter. The weather changed that. It snowed really hard all day on Friday. Luckily there were not as many people on the road. However, the weather was not supposed to get any better. So, we decided instead of getting into Monroe at 1 a.m., we would just try for another weekend. With nothing planned, we went to the gym. Troy loves the gym! They have a great daycare center there. The caretakers are great as well. We then did some shopping for Easter dinner and finally got ready for the big day when the Easter bunny arrives.
As you can tell in the photos, Troy was ecstatic! He loved looking around for eggs and treats and getting some new Thomas the Tank toys. Emma really did not know what to think, but was entertained by her big brother's Easter antics.

Horton Hears a Who!!

Matt picked a bad weekend to head to the Mall of America for a movie. The inner theme park just opened today with its transition to Nickelodeon. So, Diego, Dora, Blue's Clues, Sponge Bob, etc. were in full effect. Troy always loved to go on the train, but the train is now blue, has a face on it and is called, "La Aventura de Azul" or the Blue Adventure. They have added a lot of roller coaster rides as well. There is a new Sponge Bob coaster. Matt really wanted to go on that, but the line was long. Smack dab in the middle of the mall is another new ride. I am not sure what it is called, but it is a huge skateboard that allows two sets of 8 people in the center of it. The skateboard moves like it is going up and down a ramp, with the people in the middle spinning. It looked really cool! So, needless to say, the mall was nuts!
Aside from the mall, we were anxious for this Dr. Seuss movie to come out, because Troy and I have been doing the dance animation programs they have had available on our cable network on TV. I am sure this is an interesting visual for some, but I digress.
Troy was very curious going into the movie. However, he is is father's child, so he was more anxious for the popcorn. After sitting through 30 minutes of previews, the movie was really cute. Troy did pretty well. He had his own little bucket of popcorn, but he was doing well sharing. Emma slept through the first 30 minutes, but was really good for the rest of the movie.
The synopsis from MSN Cinemama Movie critic: "Horton" tells the story of an elephant who lives in the lush and lively jungle of Nool. He's sweet and contented until the day he hears a sound coming from a floating speck of dust. People live there, he realizes, and he sets out to rescue the inhabitants, keeping them and their wee world safe in the pink down of a thistle.
Along the way, he makes some enemies: a reactionary mother kangaroo (Carol Burnett); the Wickersham brothers, a band of ill-mannered apes; and a mercenary vulture of Eastern European descent (Will Arnett). The kangaroo especially hates Horton because he insists there is life on the speck of dust, even when no one else can perceive it. The story focuses on Horton's battle against the doubters and a parallel struggle the hereditary mayor of Whoville has with an obfuscating city council and a populace that would rather celebrate than believe their world is in peril.

I loved that the movie also had a narrator that brought in actual lines from the book. Some reviews have not been so nice for the movie, but I enjoyed it and it seemed as if Troy enjoyed it as well. The movie made for a great morning out with the family.
If you have a chance to go with a child, go for it. I wouldn't say it is exactly filled with adult humor, but there are definitly some funny parts for everyone.
Lisa Has a Job!
For those who are not aware, I am back in the work force as of this past week. I received a great opportunity to work for a nationwide law firm doing Product Liability Defense, which is mostly what I was doing before. So, the time has come for Emma to go to daycare. We are lucky we have both her and Troy at the same place. She seemed to transition pretty well. However, when I got home after the first day, she was crying out for me and then proceeded to just snuggle with me until she went to bed. I loved it! I missed her a lot as well. We had almost 8 months together at home and I loved every minute of it, well not every minute, but you get the idea.
Breakfast For Dinner
This is, of course, Troy's favorite dinner. Once every couple of weeks I make blueberry waffles on my Belgian waffle maker - Thanks Pete and Meg. We also have scrambled eggs, bacon and orange juice for the occasion. This time, Troy pushed up the chair and helped me crack the eggs before putting them in the waffle mixture. Let's just say he is working on his technique. He gets so excited for them though. It definitely makes dinner a lot more fun.
The Other Boleyn Girl
For those who are not aware, I attended an all-girls private school in the eighth grade. During that year, I developed an appreciatiation for Art, Art History, Architecture and the Renaissance period. Therefore, I was very excited for this movie to come out. Not only was fellow Australian, Eric Bana cast as Henry VIII, but it was a movie I could see during some much needed Mummy time. The movie is loosely based on history, but mostly on the book of the same name. The movie starts out with the Boleyn family, watching the child versions of Mary, Anne and their brother, George during simpler times. The movie then jumps to the wedding of Mary, played by Scarlett Johansson, to the son of a merchant family. The newlyweds talk of living a simple life in the country, but are sorely mistaken for her father, Sir Thomas Boleyn and uncle, the Duke of Norfolk have something greater in mind to improve the family's standing.
As the story goes, Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon, has failed to produce a male heir. Therefore, Sir Thomas and the Duke plan for Anne to bewitch the King and become his mistress. However, the plan backfires and Henry falls for Mary instead.
The story begins to unveil a deeper love and tenderness between Mary and the King. History paints Mary solely as a mistress of the King, but as the movie continues, it is only Mary's judgement and opinions that the King trusts and cares for. Even as mary's sister, Anne, obtains the King's affections, Henry goes to Mary to seek the truth behind Anne's possible union with Henry Percy. Not long after, Henry leaves the Catholic church and his first wife, Catherine, to marry Anne. Anne soon gives birth to the future ruler of England, Elizabeth. However, Anne too is not able to produce a male heir. Her desperation is apparent, especially after seeing the King with his future wife, Jane Seymour. The movie shows the closeness between the Boleyn children, but shows the siblings do not commit incest, no matter how desperate they are. As Anne and her brother are soon beheaded on charges of adultery and incest, it is Mary that the King tries to protect and finally acknowledges his son in the end.
To be honest, I was really disappointed with this movie. The producers try to fit too much into this movie to put it under two hours, that I feel as though they took a lot away from the story. I thought the casting was great, but they don't utilize the cast that they have. Henry is seen as vulnerable and weak before Anne. Yes, he is a man in love, but he is also the King of England and a man known for his temper. The story is supposed to be more about Mary, but I feel as though the movie failed that. It should have been called "The Boleyn Family," because we see all sides of them - their beginning, their middle and their end. The screenwriters did the actors no justice with the words they gave them. Perhaps I have found a future calling?
Wait for the DVD.
